Charlesworth Cricket Club is a friendly village club just a short distance from Hyde, with a compact but well-kept ground maintained entirely by volunteers. Keeping their mowers in reliable working order is a priority, as the club depends on a small number of machines that cannot afford to break down during the season.

Charlesworth is a small village club perched on the hillside between Glossop and Hyde, just four miles from PGT Repairs. The compact ground is maintained entirely by a handful of dedicated volunteers who balance groundskeeping with full-time jobs. The Pennine-edge position brings heavier rainfall than the lowland clubs, and the clay soil can become sticky and difficult to mow after prolonged wet spells. With only two mowers to their name, any breakdown is a genuine crisis, making the club's relationship with a nearby repair service particularly important.

Seasonal Grounds Maintenance for Charlesworth Cricket Club

Spring

Volunteers begin preparation in March with light scarification and the first tentative cuts once ground conditions allow. Overseeding is carried out on any bare patches before the season starts.

Summer

With a small squad of volunteers, mowing is concentrated on weekends before matches. Sharp blades are non-negotiable for achieving an acceptable playing surface with limited cutting passes.

Autumn

A focused renovation window in September covers aeration, overseeding, and a single application of autumn fertiliser before the ground becomes too wet to work on.

Winter

Equipment is cleaned, oiled, and stored in the club shed. Blade sharpening is arranged through PGT Repairs in January to be ready for early spring preparation.
