Hayfield's ground sits in the shadow of Kinder Scout at around 200 metres elevation, making it one of the highest cricket grounds in the region. The orographic rainfall effect from the Peak District massif means annual precipitation is among the highest in Derbyshire. The clay-heavy soil retains moisture well into the playing season, and the grounds team must balance the need for regular mowing against the risk of damaging soft surfaces.
